As one of the party locations of Europe, Ibiza is a very popular place to go for hen parties. It isn’t too far from home but far enough that you can enjoy sun, sea and cocktails even if things are chilly and raining at home. Planning an Ibiza hen party isn’t too complicated but there are a few things to consider.
Consider the timing
Obviously, the wedding itself will dictate a lot of when you go on the hen party. But it is worth considering that there are peak times when it is will not only be a lot busier but a lot more expensive to travel. July and August are the peak months for visiting Ibiza and these are when prices at the highest and the place is very busy. That might work well for the kind of hen party you want and if this is the case, book as early as possible to get the best deals. In terms of when it gets warm, the weather takes a noticeable upturn from May onwards and stays good until October. So, if you want to go for a slightly off-peak party, then consider going earlier or later in the year.
Travel tips
As it stands, you don’t need a visa to travel to Spain, but you do need to have a valid passport. This means that if your passport has run out or is close to running out, you want to get it renewed in plenty of time before the trip. As long as your passport is valid for the duration of the stay, you are okay and can renew it afterwards. Another thing to consider is travel insurance. While Spain isn’t as complicated a system as the US when it comes to healthcare and there is the EHIC which offers some basic cover, it is definitely worth getting travel insurance for the trip. Most policies will cover medical expenses, getting you back to the UK, cancellation or curtailment (cutting short) of the holiday and even delay or missed departures due to conditions beyond your control. Then there’s the cover for your baggage and personal belongings.
Getting around
Spain drives on the right-hand side of the road and most EU driving licenses are valid in the country. This means you can rent a hire car if this seems the best way of getting around. Make sure it covers you comprehensively for insurance. Mopeds, motorcycles and scooters are also popular hire options for getting around the island. You need full insurance again and most companies say you need to be at least 21-23 to hire one. The island does have an extensive and regular bus service with half-hour connections between all resorts and many of the beaches. Most buses run until around midnight and later night services work in peak times.
